Dear friends and colleagues,

A warm welcome to you all for this, the 10th International Salvage & Wreck Removal Conference.

This year we have a lively programme looking at the hot issues of today, in particular environmental salvage and the problems surrounding the salvage of very large container ships. Both topics are multi-speaker sessions and will undoubtedly generate lively debate.

All our speakers are recognised specialists in their chosen fields, and have kindly taken the time to prepare and present their thoughts and views to you. To start the programme we have addresses from the high profile and well-known Arnold Witte, future President of the International Salvage Union and George Tsavliris, Principal at Tsavliris Salvage Group.

We have presentations on some of the recent major and high profile casualties, the 'MSC Napoli' off the south coast of the UK, and the 'Pasha Bulker' off the east coast of Australia. We also have presentations on training to cope with HNS incidents, and where our future salvage personnel will come from. The Ministry of Defence are represented by Morgyn Davies who will deliver a talk on the hazards of military salvage, which I can guarantee will be thought-provoking and entertaining. Last but not least we have presentations on Casualty Management Guidelines and will hear the thoughts of the Secretary of State's Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention.

I am sure you will agree that the programme is full of interest and diversity. I often think of the old phrase 'you only get out what you put in', so come prepared with your questions and challenge some of the views that will be given by our speakers!

I look forward to welcoming you in December.

Yours faithfully
