RSS feeds
What is RSS?
RSS feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest updates in one place, as soon as it published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. RSS is an xml based format which allows web publishers to create and disseminate feeds of data, based on the content of their website.
How do I start using RSS?
To take advantage of RSS you'll need a piece of software called a 'News Reader', 'Client' or 'Aggregator', which monitors the sites and services you've expressed an interest in, alerting you when there is new content to be viewed.
Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer 7 and Safari, have RSS facilities built into the browser itself. But it is also quite easy to use a separate program, called a News Reader.
How do I get a News Reader?
There is a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different news readers work on different operating systems so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice. Google provides a list of downloadable News Readers here. Some other options are:
Windows:
Mac OS X:
Web-based readers:
Once you have a News Reader set up you can click on any RSS button you see and subscribe to the feed.
How do I subscribe to the RSS feed
If you click on the RSS button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways either by dragging the URL of the feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader. Most sites that offer feeds use a similar orange button, but some may only have a normal web link.
Using RSS feeds on your website
It is also possible to incorporate RSS feeds into your own website or weblog. It is a condition of incorporating RSS feeds on your website that you agree to comply with the Terms and Conditions of Use.
We encourage the use of Events feeds as part of a website, however, we do require that the proper format and attribution is used. Please provide attribution to ibcglobalacademy.com in relation to the RSS feeds in text form: "ibcglobalacademy.com".
